Boughton Hall Ladies go top with 3 wins out of 4

Cutler/Short build solid foundation
Sunday’s visitors to Filkins Lane were newly promoted Wistaston Ladies. Winning the toss 10 man Wistaston put CBH into bat on an ever improving wicket, a decision they may have later regretted. Openers Sammi Short and Ali Cutler took their time against the Wistaston openers of Katie Haszeldine and Ali Smith who pegged them back to a miserly 12 runs off the first 8 overs. Then came the gear change and taking drinks early at 15 overs (lime juice really!), the score had raced to 54 without loss.
The first to go was Cutler caught by Zoe Davies off Haszeldine for 60, the opening partnership putting on a formidable 103. In came Kate Coppack to join Short at the crease, and knowing she had a train to catch took no time in blasting 55 off 24 balls before being clean bowled by Jen Regan taking the score to 185 for 2. Captain Lorna Starkey was 4th in and she wasted no time in rattling up 35 not out, the innings closed on 235 for 2, Short having carried her bat with a mature 59 not out. Pick of the bowlers for Wistaston were Haszeldine (8-1-22-1) and Smith (8-3-15-0), the other four bowlers conceding 191 runs between them, with only Regan taking a wicket. As Wistaston only had 10 players, CBH provided them with a fielder for the full 40 overs.
After tea CBH opened the bowling with Coppack and Hannah Snape and with the score on 10, Davies was caught behind by Totty off Snape for 2. Coppack bowled through finishing with figures of 8-2-12-0, fielded for a while then had to go for her train back to Milton Keynes being replaced by Charlie Waring as 12th. Toyin Higgins joined Lancashire Development player Katie Bennett and the pair put on another 80 runs before Higgins was caught by Charlie Thompson, off Short for 26. Haszeldine came in and played some aggressive shots to finish on 15 not out and with Bennett on 53 not out, their innings closed on 114 for 2.
Fielding was pretty good with Coleman and Fisher impressing and some tight spin bowling from Annette Axon and Starkey keeping the score down. Cheshire junior Zoe Cabral gave an excellent account of herself against two experienced batters (4-2-5-0).
Thanks to Allan Axon for umpiring and Tim Coleman for scoring – a good all round performance but a very long day!
