Latest from Mr T

Another huge week. Busy, busy, busy!

We started the week with the Chester Community Forum in which 3 local councillors face up to the general public and answer any questions/ grievances that have arisen.

On Tuesday the ladies defeated their great rivals from Oakmere, in a win that should see them through to the Finals.

On Wednesday we hosted the Boughton Heath Junior School end of year Prom. Well organised. Nice kids. Strangely, lots of blue Slushies, food, drink and a disco.

Thursday was a tad busy. We began with Weightwatchers and then hosted an NHS meeting. 3 Limo's then arrived with the children from Cherry Grove, for their end of year Prom. An occasion that was enjoyed by many of the parents. ( Lashings of Prosecco). Meanwhile, outside the lads were defeating Port Sunlight in the Echo Quarter Final. Situation normal as Warren struck a wonderful 100. Then, back inside the Pool team hosted promotion chasing Lock Vaultage. As usual, there was high drama.

Earlier in the week Jack Williams had scored a 50 and taken 5 wickets in Cheshire's Minor Counties victory against Devon. Against the Lock he broke off, hit the ball too hard, and the white ball bounced off the table. He didn't get another go. His opponent then potted all his balls, then the black, then 5 of Jack's. Such are the vagaries of top class sport.

The ground looked absolutely perfect on Friday as a backdrop to Leah & Jay's Wedding. As it was the last Junior Cricket of the year we set up a bar in a changing room. And then a storm broke over the ground that would have challenged Noah's Ark. The groundskeeper was a broken man. Out in the deluge , trying to stem the tide, as rivers ran down the slope. Water had got under the covers. His weeks work seemed to be ruined. Some how ( along with faithful assistant Degsy ) they kept most of the water at bay. Huge effort. We gave up on the downstairs bar and retreated back upstairs.

Leah and Jay and their colourful guests loved their wedding reception. They had a ball. Congratulations folks.

The next day , the imperious Warren Goodwin completed his second century in 3 days as the lads comfortably accounted for Macclesfield. On the back pitch the grasscutter was helping Steve Henshaw by turning out for the 4th team on a pitch that he had toiled hard and long to make perfect. Bunbury made a decent 222. To say the least, our reply was a tad disappointing. All out for 60. Our curator batted number 4. Still, his patience didn't snap when he was adjudged LBW , first ball, by one of his young teammates. In a remarkable performance, the young lad only umpired for 2 balls. Unluckily, both balls resulted in LBW decisions. Perhaps it was a little unkind to not let him get his hat trick!

The 2nds and the 3rds both completed excellent victories in the away matches. An excellent day.

Bob Delgado came into The Club about ten past 3, and told me that the football team had been playing at The Garrison, and oh, by the way, the opposition are on their way and coming in a coach. Thanks. Marvellous. One person on the bar. Already a fairly busy day, and there's a coach coming in. Brilliant. To be fair the lads from Old Xav's were great, they even brought their glasses back to the Bar. Later on, it was great to see Charlie Mann's friends and family who were enjoying a bit of a get together before the young man disappears off to the U.S.A. on his college course.

We hosted the Cheshire U14's v Lancashire U14's the next day. Coming on to bowl at 61 for 0, Charlie Fleet bowled beautifully in taking 2-15 from his 10 overs. The Lancashire lads proved too strong overall and Charlie and I will be having words about the way he was out. More vagaries.

Mixed emotions for our Senior teams in the Cup competitions. First of all,the 2nd team were on a high after defeating Neston in their 20/20 Cup quarter final. However, our 4 year stranglehold on the Cheshire Cup is over as the lads went down in a competitive match at Hyde. It's been a great run and should be celebrated.

It all goes on at The Club.

See you soon.
Mr. T.
