Latest from Phil Thomas...

In a surprise development the good Ship Victory completely keel hauled Mollington on Tuesday night.

Cheshire U17 ladies played to 20/20 matches with Derbyshire, winning one and losing one the next day. The football lads were well beaten at Upton in the local derby, despite their opponents being down to 10 men from very early on. Disappointing!

We then began a sequence of 4 busy days in a row. Weightwatchers have been a bit up and down recently. Probably goes with the territory.

Thursday evening brought Dave & Jen Cannel's retirement party from the Cheshire Constabulary. The whole evening was lovely. A couple of excellent speeches, good food, beer and wine. A room full of family, friends and colleagues. It should be said that this was one of the most polite groups of people that we have had the pleasure of entertaining. Very polite Police. Thanks folks, it was fun.

The following day we hosted the grieving Trentham family for the funeral of John, a Nomad from long ago. Great food, good beer and obviously a wonderful venue. We do do a nice funeral.

On Friday evening we celebrated Kathryn Andrews' 50th brithday party. A good time was had by all, augmented by Chester's No1 DJ, Kenny. 83 minutes of Stock, Aitken & Waterman began proceedings. 83 minutes, non stop. 83 minutes. Eighty bloody three minutes. Kenny works on Flipside Radio, he has the voice for it, undoubtedly. Kenny later regaled us with stories and indeed phone calls from beyond the grave.
Unusual.

On Saturday we enjoyed 2 marvellous home victories. The Captains 115 and Jack Williams 7-41 despatched Timperley on the front pitch. On the back we were treated to a classic as the 4ths took on the good men of Kingsley. Kingsley batted first and scored 183. At 91-7 we were up against it. However, Jamie Bonner and 72 year old Bob Knight saw us home in front of the 1st team lads and a packed balcony. Top, top sport.

This was then followed by a Hot Pot and ex Boughton Hall player, Sir Curtley Ambrose. "Curtley Bouncing" spoke beautifully of his time at our Club and his fantastic career. One of the All Time Greats, one of our own.

Sunday was busy, as we hosted the 2nd XI 20/20 Semis and Final. As Didsbury defeated Timperley, we put Alderley Edge to the sword. A large crowd then enjoyed a good game of cricket as we retained our Trophy. The bowlers were magnificent in defending 118. "Danny Riley's white and white army".
Even more joy arrived when the Ladies returned with the League title. If Carlsberg made Cricket Clubs.........
It all goes on at The Club.

See you soon.

Mr. T.
