Phil Thomas' regular round-up

Quiet during the week. You probably don't need to know of travails concerning the dray, keys, toilets and Weightwatchers.

All the real action was crammed into the last 3 days.

On Friday we celebrated Annie Scudds's celebration of living in this country for 21 years.
Great night with The Kings Of Wervin, chip butties, cask ale, lashings of rose` and cake. Brilliant!

Saturday was busy!

Disco Paul served up the bacon butties in the morning for the hundreds at Junior Football. There were a few in for the drinks promotion (£2 a pint before the first goal) on the lunchtime kick off. Fortunately / unfortunately ( depending on your perspective) Man Utd scored early. We will repeat this offer on Saturday lunchtimes.

The 4th team cricketers reserved their best performance of the season in the defeat of Port Sunlight. A very happy day for Steve Henshaw who is standing down from the arduous duties of 4th team captaincy. Never easy Steve has always done it with good grace.

Outside things didn't go so well. The first home game for the lads ended in disaster. Let's hope this is as bad as it gets. A 1-4 home defeat, with the dismissals of Fitzy and Josh made a most unedifying spectacle. Come on lads. Things can only get better, in the words of a once popular beat tune.

On the plus side it was great to learn that the 5ths were back to standard form with an 8-3 victory (or was it 7-4 , no one seemed to know).

Now the tricky bit. Thank you, thank you and thank you for cooperating on Saturday evening lads.

The need for an extension to the Clubhouse was highlighted as we had to prepare the room for the influx of 113 lady cricketers for the annual Cheshire Women's Cricket Awards Dinner. To be turfed out your Club isn't right. Sorry. As you all know work will begin on the extension in December. It can't come soon enough. Thank you.

The Dinner was a fantastic success.

A sumptuous three course meal was followed by the awards. Followed by a disco, which included the biggest conga ever. And all fueled by prosecco, rose` and bitter. Whilst the home team picked up many of the trophies (fantastic effort ladies), a special mention has to be made to the girls from Leigh who were out to party. Good on yer girls. Great fun. Also special mention to the young lady who asked me not to clear any bitter from leftover glasses at the end of the night, because she would drink it. Spectacular!

Sunday was much more civilised. A really nice chilled afternoon with about 40 folks enjoying the Carvery. Old friends and a few newbies, just a lovely atmosphere with fantastic food.

You know it's true.

It all goes on at The Club.
