Latest from Phil Thomas

The scores in the matches on Tuesday and Wednesday (over 60's and University) showed the groundskeeper's intent for the season. Each team scored around the 300 mark. Interesting to note that Alex has bought a new bat, pads and gloves, and, batting above Atko on a Saturday.

Wednesday was the Chester Nomads v Sth Liverpool top of the table clash. A win and a serious title race was on. Unfortunately Caddy's men went down 0-1 to the current champions, who are now assured of retaining their crown. It's been a fantastic season, the side has continued to improve. So pleasing to see how many lads in the top 2 sides have come through from the Junior Section. A source of pride to many. Strangely 3 balls were lost in the contest. Fingers are being pointed at TMWLITH. But, what would he possibly be doing with them?

On Saturday the lads drew 0-0 at Sth Liverpool emphasising how close the sides are. Meanwhile the 2nds won 0-4 away from home. Another excellent season.

The Pool team were away at the Brewery Arms in Saltney. Again a close contest, but we're out of the Plate. A bit of local colour was added by one of the regulars treating his own septic leg by wrapping it in a bin bag. Dripped a bit, but not too much. Hey ho.

Unfortunately the weather curtailed Junior Cricket on Friday, which allowed Dave K and I to trade blows during the Birmingham v Boro football fiesta on the telly.

There was some fantastic cricket on view on Saturday afternoon.

Chester were wobbling. Lancashire stalwart Glen Chapple was making the ball talk on a wicket that was giving him a little assistance. Two lads making there home League debuts were at the crease. Will and Nick then worked hard to build a wonderful and ultimately matchwinning partnership. Bowdon were duly dismissed 70 short. Harry Killoran picking up 6 wickets. Hey presto, we are top of the League. Not sure how this has happened. Just magic! Early days.

The 2nds and 3rds were both rained off whilst the 4ths went down to Warrington. However, the new 5th team got off the mark and featured a bloke who hadn't picked up a bat for 15 years. Steve Wundke's 59 not out showed that there's no substitute for class. And to be fair, he's got a bit.
