As cricket so often mirrors the rest of our lives, we experienced the full range of highs and lows this week.

On Monday we continued to witness the upswing in the fortunes of The Bridge B Team. And as high summer burst forth, junior cricket seemed to be busier than ever. The following night the under 18's competed with a much older Brymbow side. The game was notable for a wonderful 50 by Tom Wyatt who seems to be improving with every match.

The Weightwatchers pattern was repeated. Small on Wednesday, extra large on Thursday.

The Bridge A team were beaten on Wednesday evening. The match very nearly produced the champagne moment of the season as Adam Roberts flew through the air in an attempt to pull of the best catch ever. Ads just couldn't hang on to it. Brilliant attempt.

On Thursday we experienced a real low, as we lost one of our trophies in an Echo Cup match against Birkenhead Park. Disappointing to say the least. Let's hope the lads can use this as a catalyst for the rest of the season.

The following night we said au revoir to another member of staff. In an emotional speech the young man thanked everyone for their support, patience and understanding during his many minutes serving our clientele. Once again, the good weather brought out a decent crowd as Claudia and I were 'battered' for a while.

Saturday brought the magnificent 'high' of four out of four again. Pride of place was once again given to the 4ths who thrashed Warrington 3rd team by 10 wickets. Fantastic.

A charm of ladies enjoyed the evening sunshine and the Prosecco.

Meanwhile inside a more boisterous group enjoyed the effects of Bison Grass flavoured vodka. This seemed to have the effect of turning some of our customers quite mad(der). Their hearing was obviously effected as instead of talking to each other they just seemed to be all shouting at each other at the same time. Boys being boys.

Loads of junior cricket on Sunday morning was then replaced by a Crossbatters' match which was washed out just after The Spearhead had delivered the first over. This led to a busy afternoon in the bar with Carvery and cricket teas in full swing all at the same time.

The usual Sunday afternoon lunatic fringe showed great warmth and compassion to a friend not in the best of health. Great to bring a smile to people when they need it most. Well done chaps.

In a later bizarre twist, the remnants of this group were given their own little nefarious adult fashion show from the contents of a dressing up box from a car boot. Odd finish to the week.

But we all know by now.

It all goes on at The Club.
