Lee Dixon takes over the reigns as Cheshire CCC captain for 2016, fulfilling a long-held ambition.

"It's a real honour for me to become skipper of Cheshire, something I've dreamed of," he said.

"Since making my debut at the highest level for the County in 2010, I've always hoped this day would come".

Dixon's appointment was officially confirmed immediately after the 2015 Cheshire CCC AGM last evening. He'll take over the captaincy from his good friend, Danny Woods.

A product of Cheshire Youth Cricket, the route to the top started in 2010 when Dixon made his debut under Andrew Hall and announced his arrival with 169 against Oxfordshire at Banbury.

Dixon was quick too to praise his predecessors. "I been really lucky to play under three great Cheshire captains," he said.

Albert (Andrew) Hall and I still talk regularly and I really value his advice. I've known James Duffy for a number of years and of course I've worked really closely with Woodsy, such a quality slow bowler on the Minor Counties circuit.

"In recent years we've had good times and testing times and my job now is to ensure we nurture the huge amount of young talent we have across the County and look to the future".

It's an opportunity Dixon is relishing. As Cheshire T20 captain in 2015, he led the side to success, winning the Unicorns T20 Trophy and in 2016 he'll now lead for all one day and three day games.

As captain of Chester Boughton Hall in the Cheshire County League, he has a god rapport with many players and will use this to his advantage. Dixon says too that he has "one of two new exciting ideas lined up too".
