Bill Jones, a former CBH 1st XI and Cheshire player died on 19 July.

Alison Roberts reflects on 'Uncle Bill'...

We are sad to report the death of Bill (W.H.R.) Jones, a former 1st XI player, and long-standing member of Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club.

Bill played alongside his brother, Leggo (E.L.), and his cousins, Bryan (B.E.) and Bruce (B.S.), following in the footsteps of their fathers, brothers Ted (W.E.) and Leslie (L.N.) Jones.

He was named William Harry Reynolds, after his Uncle, Harry, a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps, who was killed towards the end of the First World War at the age of 19, and also played for the Club. He was the last of the Jones', and was a Vice President and a lifetime supporter of the Club.

Bill, a well-known Chester solicitor, was also a former Captain of Cheshire County Cricket Club, and represented England at hockey.

His funeral is on Monday, 3rd August, at 11am, at Pentrebychan Crematorium, Wrexham.

Footnote:

Bill had an interesting life away from cricket and used to write scripts for the famous radio programme ITMA featuring Tommy Handley.

Pictures show Bill Jones and a side featuring all six Jones'.
