Chester moved back to the top of the ECB Cheshire Premier League with a 41 run over Grappenhall.

With rain elsewhere around the County, Rick Moore's side took advantage of the good conditions in a match that fully demonstrated their in-depth batting and potent spin attack.

Deploying three spinners - Jack Williams, Harry Killoran and Charlie Fleet, each put their stamp on the game after Grappenhall had scrapped to make things tough.

And it was first spoils to the visitors too as they had Chester rocking early at 53-5. Two key partnerships then changed the game, both featuring Killoran who put on 86 for the sixth wicket with Lloyd Aspin (47), and 71 for the seventh with Williams (41). The switch to all out attack paid dividends with Killoran ending unbeaten on 85 and a decent looking total of 230-7.

Grappenhall lost wickets at regular intervals but skipper Adam Roylance held firm with a resolute 95 as his side looked to thwart Chester and gain at least a draw.

The second match turning incident though saw a fine spell of bowling from Charlie Fleet, taking 3-51 including a spell of three wickets for five runs. Williams then upped the ante to return figures of 4-39 and with Roylance finally out, Chester got home by 41 runs.

Next week sees first v third as Chester make the trip to Hyde.
