Cheshire Cup Semi Final: CBH 177 (43.5 overs), New Brighton 77-6 (23 overs). Chester won on a faster scoring rate.

Will Owen led Chester to their fifth Cheshire Cup Final in six years as his troops overcame a strong New Brighton side.

In front of a big Filkins Lane crowd, Chester scored 177 and the New Brighton reply sat at 77-6 from 23 overs when rain brought an end to the game. Having played through the poor weather for a while, conditions eventually became unplayable and the umpires no option but to lead the players off.

Chester won on a faster run rate and go on to play Neston in the final on 3 September.

Winning the toss and batting first, Chester worked hard on a slow pitch with the initial par score of 230 reconsidered as the bowlers plied their trade.

Lee Dixon (37), Alex Money (32), Jack Williams (32) kept the runs ticking over, the middle order upping the ante when 115-5 spelled trouble. David While took 3-33 for the visitors while ex CBH favourite and skipper Mark Rowland took 2-21 including a fine diving catch from his own bowling to dismiss Money.

After the earlier sunshine, conditions changed in mid afternoon as the New Brighton response faltered. Rowland dug deep but once he'd gone for 15 to Goodwin and the dangerous Andy Clarke had been caught in the deep with a fine running catch from Owen, things looked bleak. Goodwin took 2-15 with the remaining wickets spread amongst Williams, Owen, Harry Killoran and Charlie Fleet.

And with the weather closing in, New Brighton were behind the required run rate.

Once the players came off, run rate took over and Chester took the plaudits.

Neston's victory at Timperley means that following the toss of a coin, Chester will travel to Parkgate (for the fifth time this season!).
