Rick Moore's take on CBH's low altitude winter training!

Football correspondent Rick (Bobby) Moore takes up the story...

During the winter months there are a group from the cricket club (with a few ringers if Warren has anything to do with it) that play football on a Tuesday night, mainly just for a bit of a social and a run around although there is no love lost once the game starts.

The teams are always split ‘Youngies’ Vs ‘Oldies’ and to be fair is normally a good game even though most of the players walk off with a few bruises from chopper Goodwin or the Welsh wrecking ball Will Owen.

Griff will always stick up for Warren shouting abuse from the safety of his penalty area when he is in goal and retreats into his shell when outfield and Seamus of course has never committed a foul or touched the ball inside the area as he is whiter than white).

While the youngsters obviously have youth on their side the old boys often play some mesmerising football with Jim Gilson (likened to a young Jan Molby) and Dan Riley pulling the strings while the young guys run around like headless chickens tiring themselves out before the oldies go in for the kill.

Dave Fisher is usually found within an inch of Seamus at all times and constantly barking orders at the rest of his team (mainly because they haven’t tracked back due to lack of fitness).

What the older Dixon lacks in pace he makes up for in verbal’s as he is normally dishing out digs and Gazza or Will depending which team he is on that week.

The youngsters even recruited from overseas drafting Tommy Evans to play in goal which has proved a decent signing as he provides a sturdy frame for the opposition to find a way past, unlike Ollie Law's hologram like goal keeping skills.

All in all, the games are played in good spirits with a competitive edge and have produced a mixture of results so far (if I was being honest the oldies have probably won more but who’s counting?).
