Fund allocations from Ashes Bike Ride

In September last year the club staged the most remarkable fundraising event in its history – the Ashes Ride.

Over 72 hours, hundreds of club members cycled 13,884 miles, smashing the Lords to MCG target of 10,518 miles, and in the process raising just under £9,000 for club funds.

You can read more about the event here and relive the excitement as it unfolded over twitter.

Recently the Club Directors, who represent both the cricket and football sections, decided how the funds raised from the Ashes Ride would be used to further the development of the club, and have allocated the funds into 4 areas:

  1. New covers will be purchased, supplemented by a grant from the ECB. This means both front and back pitches will have covers, reducing the number of games we have rained off.
  2. A mains power feed will be made to the cricket nets. Not the most glamorous of activities, but a crucial one if we want to use bowling machines in the nets.
  3. Jo Herbertson’s work in the local community and local schools to introduce cricket, in particular to girls, will be funded by the club as we play our part in being good members of the community and opening up cricket to all. Read more about the classes Jo is running here
  4. Last but by no means least, the balance of the funds will be used to contribute to the significant investments the club is making to develop the ground and buildings. The current creation of a standalone football pitch on the bottom field is the most visible example of this. The upcoming extension of the clubhouse to create a dedicated function room and improved changing facilities is an investment that looks to secure the club’s financial future.

Thank you again to the sponsors of the Ashes Ride, to everyone who donated, and of course to all who cycled.
