Semi-final:
Chester Boughton Hall 141-8, Alderley Edge 96. Chester won by 45 runs
Final:
Chester Boughton Hall 117, Didsbury 104-5. Chester won by 13 runs
Dan Riley's CBH 2nd XI retained their t20 crown as they defeated Didsbury in a tense final at Flkins Lane.
A large crowd had seen them earlier overcome Alderley Edge in the semi-final before taking the honours in a low scoring game, almost coming back from the dead.
The day started with a 45 run win over Alderley, Chester batting first and making 141-8 (Bob Evans 40, Matt Griffiths 24, Sam Mallows 22, Tom Wyatt 21*).
Alderley succumbed for 96 as Riley took 4-22. There were a couple of wickets each for Joe Maddocks and Mallows whilst Wyatt looked sharp behind the stumps with a couple of fine stumpings.
In the other semi-final Didsbury overcame Timperley to set up a showdown with the hosts.
And the final proved a very different affair.
Chester won the toss and immediately found runs hard to come by. Their seemingly below-par total of 117 was due in the main to a battling unbeaten 49 from Alex Townend.
But Chester's bowling attack has strength in depth as Didsbury's response faltered. There were miserly bowling spells from Alex Kegg (1-19), Mallows (1-12), Maddocks (1-17), Bob Evans (1-16) and Charlie Fleet (0-20). Runs dried up and Didsbury eventually finished 13 short on 104.
Much credit goes to a young CBH 2nd XI as they retained the trophy won at Warrington a year ago. Riley has moulded a new young side together, mixed with some senior experience and the formula has worked well and bodes well for the future.
